The Impact of Rapid Technological Change.

Rapid rise in global energy use has already resulted in severe issues with energy scarcity and pollution. Growing public awareness of climate change and the toxins emitted by carbon-based fuels has sparked a surge in interest in renewable energy sources. Solar energy, which is renewable and ecologically sustainable, is one of the most important features of renewable energy and is already widely employed in the home, industrial, rural, and transportation sectors.

In general, solar energy has been employed for two purposes: electricity and heat. Solar thermal energy is used to heat water or air for purposes such as heating and cooling in homes and businesses. Solar thermal energy may also be used to generate electricity, as in a concentrated solar power plant. Solar photovoltaic technology uses a semiconductor solar material to transform solar energy into electricity.

The goal of this Special Issue is to compile a collection of research articles on many areas of solar energy technologies, such as solar desalination, solar transportation, solar heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), solar building technology, and solar fuels.

It is also of interest to do specialised research on innovative systems, design, simulation models, and performance evaluation and optimization. We encourage original research as well as review papers.

Florida is home to some imperiled species such as gopher tortoises, sandhill cranes, burrowing owls, that can be impacted by the solar farms. There are also actions that can be taken to benefit these species as well as others such as pollinators, Southeastern American kestrels, and neotropical migrants

The American Chemical Society has extensively compared solar and fossil fuels, concluding that “Overall, all PV (solar) technologies generate far less life-cycle air emissions per GWh [gigawatt hour] than conventional fossil-fuel-based electricity generation” 11.

Also, the International Renewable Energy Agency and the International Energy Agency Photovoltaic Power System Programme released a joint paper explaining that, on top of far exceeding the energy payback time, over 90% of the materials in current solar panels can be recycled into the next generation 12. As the influence and impact of solar power grow, scientists and manufacturers around the world actively aspire to create even better, more sustainable solar energy technology.
